PENULTIMATE – Fine Writing Instruments
As a marine engineer and retired Navy captain, I’ve always been fascinated with machines, tools, and woodworking. A recently acquired rare autoimmune disease severely limits my activities, so I took to making pens, wine bottle stoppers, and seam rippers from exotic woods and interesting acrylics. The mini-lathe in my ‘Pen Production Facility’ (garage) allows me to turn blanks of purpleheart and cocobolo from South America, pink ivory wood from South Africa, olivewood from Jerusalem, and North Carolina walnut, oak and maple into functional and attractive pieces. My pens range from slim-line to thematic (police, firemen, patriotic, dog, cat, faith, nautical, fly fishing, golf, and many others). I love taking a plain piece of wood and seeing the inner grain come to life. No items I produce are the same, and I delight in taking special orders for weddings, birthdays, and other events.
